2012 Major League Baseball All-Star Game

The 2012 Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be the 83rd midseason exhibition between the all-stars of the American League (AL) and the National League (NL). The game will be played on July 10, 2012, at Kauffman Stadium, the home of the American League Kansas City Royals.

"In All-Star Games the players are chosen by balloting. Millions of fans vote. It is Democracy at its most transcendent. All the voters get out of it is the loss of a three-cent stamp or a two-cent postal card. Dishonesty in counting the votes has never been charged." - Fred Schwed in How to Watch a Baseball Game (Fred Schwed, Harper Publishing, 1957, Page 33)

Did you know that the designated hitter became a permanent position during the 2010 Midsummer Classic and all future All-Star Games - regardless of the site where its played?

This will be the third All-Star Game ever played at the Kansas City Royals home field, the first two were the 1960 All-Star Game in Municipal Stadium and the 1973 All-Star Game in Royals Stadium.

When Tony La Russa came out of retirement to manage the N.L. All-Star Team he moved into a fourth place tie with Joe Torre for most All-Star Games managed: #1. Casey Stengel (10) #2. Walter Alston (9) #3. Joe McCarthy (7).
