During his rookie season, Jason Bay led all other rookies in home runs (26) and RBIs (26) - breaking the Pittsburgh Pirates record for homers in a season by a rookie (23), set originally in 1936 by Johnny Rizzo , then tied by Ralph Kiner in 1946. When the Baseball Writers' Association of America selected Bay as the Rookie of the Year , he became the first Pittsburgh Pirate to ever receive the honor, AND, the first Canadian -born player to win!
