Did you know that Jeff Conine was with the Florida Marlins for both of their World Series championships ( 1997 and 2003 ), and is the only Marlin who played in both the 1997 World Series and 2003 World Series ? One of several reasons he was nicknamed Mr. Marlin.

Did you know that when Jeff Conine, who was nicknamed Conine the Barbarian in the minor leagues, hit his first Major League home run, on May 1, 1993 , it was a grand slam? The hard-swinging righty would go on to hit seven additional grand slams in his career, five more in a Marlins uniform, and to date remains the franchise leader in grand slams.

Jeff Conine was originally drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 1987 baseball draft , the 1,225th player selected that season - as a pitcher from UCLA ! His collegiate stats:

"Niner" never wore number nine, but when he took the field on April 5, 1993 , the first regular season game in Marlins franchise history, he became their first player to wear #19 , their first left-fielder, and in the eighth inning, the first Marlin to ever successully steal a base (which happened to be third base, off [pitcher] Ricky Trlicek and [catcher] Mike Piazza ).
