"Top winner on the Salisbury (North Carolina) Astros' staff, Jay Dahl was fatally injured in a car crash at the age of nineteen, making him the youngest former major leaguer ever killed. The accident occurred on June 20, 1965. The Houston Colt .45s utilized him as the starting pitcher specifically to exhibit an all-rookie lineup against the New York Mets on September 27, 1963 . Dahl gave up seven runs in three innings and was charged with Houston's 10-3 defeat. The other starters in that lineup included Rusty Staub , Joe Morgan and Jimmy Wynn ." - Author Bill Chuck in Walkoffs, Last Licks, and Final Outs: Baseball's Grand (and Not-So-Grand) Finales (ACTA Publications, 04/01/2008, Page 200)
