Jon Matlack ( 1973 World Series ) and Ron Darling ( 1986 World Series ) are the only two New York Mets twirlers to be Game 7 starting pitchers. Ron won a ring after his start, Jon did not. So what prompted Darling to write the incredibly insightful book, Game 7, 1986: Failure and Triumph in the Biggest Game of My Life ?

Every little kid who's ever taken the mound in Little League dreams of someday getting the ball for Game Seven of the World Series. Ron Darling got to live that dream - only it didn't go exactly as planned. In New York Times bestselling Game 7, 1986, the award-winning baseball analyst looks back at what might have been a signature moment in his career, and reflects on the ways professional athletes must sometimes shoulder a personal disappointment as his team finds a way to win. Published to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the 1986 New York Mets championship season, Darling's book will break down one of baseball's great "forgotten" games - a game that stands as a thrilling, telling and tantalizing exclamation point to one of the best-remember seasons in Major League Baseball history.

Did you know that when Ron Darling was awarded the Gold Glove Award in 1989, he was the first New York Mets pitcher to receive the honor? Did you know that not one Mets twirler since Darling has ever won?

Ron Darling was the ninth pitcher born in the state of Hawaii to appear in a Major League game, joining Johnnie Williams (1914), Prince Oana (1934), Charlie Hough (1970), Milt Wilcox (1970), Ryan Kurosaki (1975), Doug Capilla (1976), Fred Kuhaulua (1977), and Carlos Diaz (1982). Darling made his debut in 1983, and when he was sent to the 1985 Midsummer Classic , he became the first Hawaiian-born All-Star pitcher!
