On July 14, 1968, Vern Handrahan - the first pitcher (joining two positional players, catcher Henry Oxley & outfielder George Wood ) from Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada - was inducted into the PEI Sports Hall of Fame and Museum ( Full Story ), where they shared that Vern did not start playing baseball until he was 15 years old!
