Lenny Harris Stats

Lenny Harris was born on Wednesday, October 28, 1964, in Miami, Florida. Harris was 23 years old when he broke into the big leagues on September 7, 1988, with the Cincinnati Reds. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Lenny Harris baseball stats page.

"Harris learned the lessons he now applies to pinch-hitting from his former manager, Pete Rose , in his early days with the Reds. He credits Rose with teaching him how important it is to not just go up to the plate and swing away. ' Pete told me I have the ability to play at this level, stay in shape, always hustle, be ready to do what you can,' says Harris. 'So hearing that from a legend like Pete Rose made me feel good, that I had a chance. After one particular at-bat, he came to me and said, 'Did you know what the pitcher was going to throw you?' And I didn't. I realized then what I wanted to be like. I want to be the guy who watches the game, learns from it, sees what the pitchers are throwing to other guys, then be able to know a little about what might be coming, and what I can do with that pitch.'" - Author Paul Votano in Stand and Deliver: A History of Pinch-Hitting (McFarland Publishing, 05/19/2003, Page 161)
