"I'd been trying to convince the Dodgers for two years that they had a little Pudge Rodriguez on their hands. I don't know if he'll (Russell Martin) win ten Gold Gloves , but he has a chance to become that good. He's got a perfect body, sets a perfect target and is really, really quiet back there." - Los Angeles Dodgers Closer Eric Gagne in Sports Illustrated (July 2, 2007)

Did you know that when Russell Martin hit his second inning homer in the 2013 National League Wildcard Game (vs Cincinnati ), he became the first catcher in Major League history to homer for three different Major League teams during postseason contests ( Dodgers in the 2008 National League Divisional Series & Yankees in the 2012 American League Divisional Series were the other two)?

In 1981 , Gary Carter , catching for the Montreal Expos , captured both the Silver Slugger and Gold Glove Award , the first catcher in National League history to win both awards during the same season, a feat he duplicated in 1982 . Benito Santiago joined Carter , winning both in 1988 , and again in 1990 . The next backstop to win both in the senior circuit was Russell Martin, in 2007 .

Russell Martin was the third Los Angeles Dodgers catcher to win a Gold Glove Award at Catcher , joining Johnny Roseboro (1961 & 1966) and Charles Johnson (1988). He remains, through today, the only Dodger backstop to win the Gold Glove and Silver Slugger during the same season - Mike Piazza won ten consecutive Silver Slugger Awards (1993-2002, the first six in Los Angeles , the next four with the New York Mets ), but never once won a Gold Glove .
