Dick Wantz had an excellent Spring Training in 1965, making the Angels ' roster, and pitching on Opening Day on April 13, 1965 . Wantz relieved Don Lee in the eighth inning, struck out the first batter ( Max Alvis ) he faced, then surrendered back-to-back doubles (one run scored), then an additional run scoring single, before settling back down to whiff Ralph Terry , strikeout #2, and eventually cause Dick Howser to weakly ground out to Jim Fregosi . Exactly thirty days later, Dick Wantz died .
