"God offers each one of us the free gift of Salvation, but we must each make a decision to accept the gift. The gift is Christ's payment of our sins by His death on the cross... The Bible says we must be 'doers of the Word and not hearers only.' Please accept Christ today and join God's eternal family, then dedicate every area of your life to his Lordship." - Kevin Ward (Personal Message he Included on Christian Outreach Baseball Cards)

Kevin Michael Ward was a Major League Baseball player for the San Diego Padres ( 1991 & 1992 ). Ward was a star quarterback at Central Bucks High School West, leading them to the Pennsylvania State Championship his senior year, and was rewarded with a football scholarship to the University of Arizona . Kevin switched from QB to starting wide receiver with the Wildcats, a two-sport threat who simultaneously excelled on the diamond, hitting over .400 once and being named a First Team All-Pac 10 Conference player.

On June 7, 1982, Kevin Ward was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals , in the 29th round of the 1982 Baseball Draft , but did not sign. A year later, on June 6, 1983, Ward was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 6th round of the 1983 Baseball Draft , signing a contract ten days later, and reporting to the Bend Phillies (A Ball) of the Northwest League.

Kevin climbed through the Phillies farm system, reaching Triple A in 1987, but got injured a year later (shoulder), was released, then fought his way back, getting signed by the Oakland Athletics in 1989. Kevin climbed through their farm system, reached Triple A in 1990, but got injured again (wrist), was released again, then fought bacak again, getting signed by the Friars in 1991. San Diego started Kevin in Triple A ball with the Las Vegas Stars, where he excelled, leading the Pacific Coast League in hitting (.322 batting average), earning his call-up to the majors on May 10, 1991 .

Did you know that Kevin Ward was released by the Padres after 125 games, due to his struggles at the plate (.217 average, 5 home runs, 20 RBIs)? Ward was no stranger to overcoming failure and setbacks, made his way back to Triple-A a year later, but left baseball to work with race horses, financing, and the restaurant (Greystone Steakhouse, San Diego, CA) business. On March 9, 2019, Ward died at the age of 57, after a battle with cancer.
