Eric Wedge Stats

Eric Wedge was born on Saturday, January 27, 1968, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Wedge was 23 years old when he broke into the big leagues on October 5, 1991, with the Boston Red Sox. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Eric Wedge baseball stats page.

Oakland , he talked briefly about the legacy he tried to leave his younger players with. 'For me, it’s about being a man on and off the field,' he said. 'And about the way you carry yourself with your family in the community and what you mean to the game when you’re on the field.' Not all managers can manage the way Wedge does, with the patience of a teacher and the swagger of an old Western sheriff." - Seattle Times Staff Writer Geoff Baker (09/29/2012, 'Eric Wedge walked out on Mariners with his dignity intact', Source )

On October 29, 2002, Eric Wedge was named the manager of the Cleveland Indians (replacing Charlie Manuel & Joel Skinner). The Indians steadily improved for three years (4th place, 3rd place, 2nd place), suffered a setback in 2006, then won a Central Division Title in 2007 - Wedge, who said shortly after that, "It's not the best 25 players, but the right 25 players," was awarded the Manager of the Year that season, the first by a Cleveland Indians Manager .

The Cleveland Indians announced that Eric Wedge would not be retained as manager on September 30, 2009. Two years later Wedge was named manager of the Seattle Mariners , but a stroke in July 2013 caused him to miss a month and prompted him to retire at the end of the season. During his time in Seattle , Wedge witnessed:

June 8, 2012 : The first combined no-hitter in franchise history, which was the first interleague no-hitter in franchise history, which was the first no-hitter in Safeco Field, which also tied the record for most pitchers used in a no-hitter (tying the Houston Astros ).

August 15, 2012 : The first perfect game in franchise history, courtesy of Felix Hernandez , a 1-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays .

Did you know that when Eric Wedge pinch-hit for David Nied at Mile High Stadium on September 17, 1993 , he became the first Colorado Rockies player to ever wear # #22 ?
