Earl Wilson was the first black pitcher on the Red Sox when he made his Major League debut on July 28, 1959 , seven days after Pumpsie Green , who was the first player in Boston to break the color barrier.

Besides being former Major League pitchers, what do Wes Ferrell ( April 29, 1931 ), Jim Tobin ( April 27, 1944 ) Earl Wilson ( June 26, 1962 ) and Rick Wise ( June 23, 1971 ) have in common? If you said they each threw a no-hitter, on that date in parenthesis, you were partially correct, but they are also the only four pitchers in baseball history to hit a home run during their no-hitter !
Earl Wilson No-Hitter
Earl Wilson No-Hitter ( Box Score ) | The Cumberland News | June 27, 1962 | Page 12

Did you know that Earl Wilson hit thirty-five home runs off thirty-one different pitchers across eleven different ballparks? Thirty-three of the thirty-five were hit while he was pitching, two were hit while he was pinch hitting, and he came close to the breaking the Major League record for most home runs by a pitcher .
