Throwing Arms Chart by Baseball Almanac
During the first Major League season (1876) there were ninety right handed Major League ballplayers and ten left handed Major League players. Those inaugural lefties were Bob Addy , John Cassidy , Jimmy Hallinan , Bill Harbridge , Fergy Malone , John Mullen , Lip Pike , Billy Redmon , Joe Start & Oscar Walker .
The four players officially listed by Major League Baseball as being able to officially throw both left & right handed are: Tony Mullane (1881-1894), George Wheeler (1896-1899), Moxie Manuel (1905-1908) & Greg Harris (1981-1995).
Why are there players listed without a known throwing arm? Because baseball history is an ever evolving field of study and early baseball history had record keeping practices that left much to be desired.
