Major League Players With a Celebrity Family Connection

Playing baseball can be pretty difficult. It takes lots of practice and hard work to be good at it. That’s why it is so difficult to play it (or any sport for that matter) professionally. If you are lucky enough to play professionally, there’s another good chance that you won’t make it to the big leagues as that’s where the elite end up. But if you are lucky enough to make it to the majors, there’s another chance that you won’t be good enough to stick around for a while. But then there are the ones who are able to stick around and make a name for themselves as an established big league player. They keep up the hard work and people notice them. They become famous.

The path to fame is long and difficult. Now imagine not only you being famous, but also someone else in your family being famous. It brings a lot more attention to both you and them, and you become almost an idol. There are quite a few baseball families out there who also have in them another celebrity. Below you find a list of a number of MLB players who have other famous people in their family.

"I was coming from something that was kind of similar in the sense that there are no promises in baseball. No matter how good you are, it's still a long road ahead. Being the youngest of four was kind of helpful for me. They weren't glad that I was hanging up baseball. They were just glad someone was going to try something different. My parents live about four hours from Tallahassee. My dad told me, 'I'm sorry to see you stop doing something you love, but I'm sure glad I don't have to drive four hours every single weekend.' My brother Matt was still pursuing that dream and it was just time for me to pursue a new dream and something different." - Christian Singer Jonny Diaz on Belief Net (Chad Bonham, 'A conversation with Christian recording artist Jonny Diaz', Source )

Did you know that soap opera star John Berardino (Dr. Steve Hardy on General Hospital) played Major League Baseball for the St. Louis Browns, the Cleveland Indians, and the Pittsburgh Pirates between 1939 and 1952?
Both Lauren Bay Regula (wife of Jason Bay ) and Jennie Lynn Finch (wife of Casey Daigle ) twice pitched in the Olympics and both in the same years (2004 and 2008). Rugula pitched for Team Canada and Finch for Team USA.
Several country singers interacted with the game: Garth Brooks and Charley Pride both went to Spring Training with Major League clubs. Brooks was in camp with the Padres in 1998 and with the Mets in 1999 where he hit a mere .045 (1-22). Conway Twitty was actually drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies, entered the Army, then went on to become a country legend.
