"He's (Jose Abreu) a difference-maker. He's such a quality at-bat. His power is unbelievable. He can take so many different pitches and just take you yard. You obviously respect what he can do. He's changed the complexion of their lineup and allows some of their other players to do other things as well. When you have a guy like that in your lineup, anchoring it, in a way it's kind of like what we have in Detroit with Miggy Max Scherzer (Dan Hayes, 07/14/2014, 'Miguel Cabrera: Jose Abreu’s start is ‘amazing', Source )

When Jose Abreu made his Major League debut on March 31, 2014 , he wore number #79 - the first player in franchise history to wear # #79 , the first player in American League history to wear it, and only the third in Major League history to wear it ( Justin De Fratus , 2012-2013 Phillies, #79 & Jean Machi , 2012 San Francisco Giants, # #79 ).

Jose Abreu hit his thirty-fifth home run of the season on September 14, 2014 , tying him with Ron Kittle for the franchise record for home runs in a season by a rookie. On September 27, 2014 , Abreu hit his thirty-sixth, and final home run of the year, setting a new Pale Hose record for home runs in a single season. His ability to consistently hit home runs helped him win three Rookie of the Month Awards , a feat accomplished previously in the American League by Ichiro Suzuki (5x in 2011) and Mike Trout (4x in 2012).
