Aubrey Gatewood Stats

Aubrey Gatewood was born on Thursday, November 17, 1938, in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Gatewood was 24 years old when he broke into the big leagues on September 11, 1963, with the Los Angeles Angels. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Aubrey Gatewood baseball stats page.

"Aubrey (Gatewood), a ten-year man in pro ball, comes out of North Little Rock, Ark., and was signed to his first pro contract by Schoolboy Rowe on behalf of the Detroit Tigers. The California Angels grabbed him in the American League expansion draft back in '63 and he had shots with the Angels the next three seasons... he appeared in 46 games in '65 and came out with a 4-5 record. He still lives in Anaheim. He wouldn't mind moving to Atlanta. But an Aubrey Gatewood, if he's to throw a knuckler, also needs a catcher who can stop the ball. Charley Lau, skipper of the S-Braves two years back, once said the only way to catch a knuckler is to wait for the ball to stop rolling, then pick it up. Aubrey's been throwing the knuckler so much that in his first start this spring, at San Antonio, his catcher Dick Sauget was charged with four passed balls, Adrian Garrett came all the way 'round from firs base to score on those three pitches." - Staff Writer Bill McIntrye in The Times (05/02/1970, El Knuckle Ball , Section C, Page One)
