Pedro Guerrero Stats

"Pedro (Guerrero) was the best hitter in baseball in the early 1980's, bar none and very probably might have won the triple crown in 82, 83, or 85 had he not been playing in one of the toughest parks for a hitter. He had a Willie Mays -type body, fast and with a strong arm, although he was never a finished defensive player at any position." - Bill James in The New Bill James Historical Abstract (Free Press Publishing, June 13, 2003, Page 804)

Did you know that Pedro Guerrero was the first Los Angeles Dodgers ' player to hit 30-or-more home runs and steal 20-or-more bases in a season ( 1982 ). A year later, he matched that feat, but never reached the 30-30 Club . What Dodger was their 30-30 player ? [ Answer ]

Pedro Guerrero was "never a finished defensive player at any position" (see quote), but New York Times staff writer George Vecsey once wrote, "why would you want him to worry about bunts and grounders when he should be thinking about the real stuff in life, hitting?" A post game question was asked and this legendary baseball quote occurred:

Once asked what went through his mind while hunched over at the ''hot corner,'' Guerrero admitted he was thinking: ''Please don't hit the ball to me.'' And what was his second thought? ''Please don't hit it to Sax ,'' a reference to Steve Sax , the second baseman who for a long time had problems making the short throw to first base.
