Dennis Lamp Stats

Dennis Lamp was born on Tuesday, September 23, 1952, in Los Angeles, California. Lamp was 24 years old when he broke into the big leagues on August 21, 1977, with the Chicago Cubs. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Dennis Lamp baseball stats page.

"In baseball, there is so much time to observe and absorb what's going on around you, especially for pitchers in the bullpen, and for starting pitchers, who have little to do in between starts except watch and wonder. As pitcher Dennis Lamp watched teammate Luis Polonia butcher another flyball, he decided, 'If you hit Polonia a hundred fly balls, you could make a movie out of it, Catch-22.'" - Tim Kurkjian in Is This a Great Game, or What?: From A-Rod's Heart to Zim's Head--My 25 Years in Baseball (St. Martin's Press, 05/01/2007, 'Phil Niekro's Teeth', Page 65)

Did you know that Dennis Lamp came within a single victory of tying Tom Zachary's Major League record for most wins a single season without a single loss ? Lamp's 11-0 record in 1985 was one shy of Zachary who went 12-0 for the 1929 Yankees and only two other pitchers have had at least ten wins without a loss - Howie Krist in 1941 and Aaron Small in 2005. Baltimore Orioles 1981 Ticket | Cal Ripken, Jr. 1st Hit Ticket | Baseball Almanac Collection
On August 13, 1979 , Dennis Lamp took the mound versus the St. Louis Cardinals in Busch Stadium, gave up a single to the first batter he faced, Garry Templeton , in the bottom of the first inning, then gave up another single to the second batter he faced, Lou Brock . The left field shot by The Franchise put his name into the 3,000 Hits Club (along Dennis Lamp as well). So, why do we have a ticket from a 1981 Orioles game up above? On August 16, 1981 , Dennis Lamp gave up the first career hit to future 3,000 Hits Club member Cal Ripken, Jr. , a single in the bottom of the third inning.
