"When I made the conversion to pitching, there were a few times when I was like, 'Come on, what are you doing? Who does this when they're 35?' My next thought was, 'How can I complain?' I knew there was something still there. The question was, 'Would anyone else see it that way?'" - Jason Lane on MLB.com (Corey Brock, 08/29/2013, 'Former outfielder Lane trying to make it on mound', Source )

Did you know that Jason Lane made his last outfield appearance in a Major League game on October 1, 2007 , appearing as the defensive replacement center fielder, then, a little over six years later, he returned the show, this time on the mound as a relief pitcher? An amazing story, but not one that is totally shocking:

Jason Lane College Career

Jason Lane transitioned from Santa Rosa High School to Santa Rosa Junior College, where he had no problem making the jump and won both the 1997 California Junior College Northern California Player of the Year and the Bay Valley Conference Most Valuable Player Award.

Jason Lane then transferred to the University of Southern California ( USC ) where he again had no problem making the jump and earned All-America honors during his senior season (1999), including pitching 2.2 innings in the 1998 College World Series (CWS) championship game to pick up the win and help USC to its 12th NCAA baseball championship, topping Arizona State University 21-14. Lane also served as the designated hitter in the game, going 3-6 with a ninth inning grand slam setting a CWS record with 11 hits overall, and led the tournament with a .417 batting average.
