Alfonso Soriano Stats

"The guy (Alfonso Soriano) works his butt off all the time. There's no doubt the fans lost a little faith in him sometimes with the things he does, but I think the fans have to understand he's probably the hardest-working guy in the clubhouse. That's always refreshing, and players love him to death. He's the most prolific guy in our lineup and he's done it before." - Chicago Cubs Manager Dale Sveum on MLB.com (Carrie Muskat, 02/28/2012, 'Cubs confident that Soriano can produce', Source )

Did you know that Jose Canseco (1988), Barry Bonds (1996), Alex Rodriguez (1998) and Alfonso Soriano (2006) are the only four players in the 40/40 Club connect for at least forty home runs and steal at least forty bases during the same season? When Soriano joined the club his manager, hall of famer Frank Robinson , commented on MLB.com, "It's a very nice accomplishment. There's no doubt about it. The people that hit forty home runs or more don't steal that many bases, even today. It's quite an accomplishment." and his opponent's manager, Ned Yost of the Brewers , commented, "You don't see 40-40 every day, and that's a huge accomplishment."

Did you know that Alfonso Soriano was only the second player in New York Yankees ' history to join the 30 / 30 Club (30 Home Runs and 30 Stolen Bases in the Same Season) , joining Bobby Bonds who was first in 1975 (32 HRs / 30 SBs)?

Did you know that Alfonso Soriano is the only New York Yankee player in franchise history with two 30 / 30 Club seasons, and did them both consecutively (2002-2003)?

Did you know that Alfonso Soriano and Bobby Bonds are the only two American League players in baseball history to record more than two 30 home run / 30 stolen base seasons (in the junior circuit)? Besides the two mentioned above, Soriano had his third with the 2005 Texas Rangers (36 HRs / 39 SBs).

Did you know that Alfonso Soriano retired with fifty-four lead-off home runs, second most in Major League history, behind Rickey Henderson ? [ Most Home Runs by a Lead-Off Hitter ]

In 2001, Andruw Jones of the Atlanta Braves was awarded an $8,200,000.00 contract - the most ever during a salary arbitration case. In 2006, Alfonso Soriano lost his arbitration case and was "only" awarded $10,000,000.00, not the $12,000,000.00 he was requesting ( Read More ). Despite the $2,000,000.00 difference, the contract set a new record for highest salary ever awarded during an arbitration case in Major League history.

Brady Anderson hit twelve leadoff home runs in 1996, setting a new American League record for Most Leadoff Home Runs in a Single Season . Alfonso Soriano took that record away from Brady in 2003, when he led-off thirteen games with a home run setting a new American League (and Major League record ). Soriano was traded by the Yanks, to the Rangers, to the Nationals, and eventually to the Cubs, where he broke the National League record for most leadoff home runs that was set by Bobby Bonds in 1973 (11 HRs) - Soriano hit twelve and remains the Major League / American League and National League record holder for most leadoff home runs by a leadoff hitter !
