The Boston Red Sox Rookie of the Year has been awarded annually since 1990, and recipients are determined through a vote by members of the Boston Red Sox Chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
"The Fenway crowd was outstanding that night ( Game 2 , 1990 American League Championship Series) and I had to make sure I did not get to caught up in that. They pump you up like no other crowd. You get a couple outs, get 0-2 on somebody and you still see it today where they rise to their feet. They are without a doubt the best baseball fans to ever play for." - Dana Kiecker in The Boston Globe (08/20/2004, 'Catching Up With Dana Kiecker', Pg 4)
The first Boston Red Sox Rookie of the Year went to Dana Kiecker , signed as an eighth round pick in the 1983 Draft by the Boston Red Sox , scouted by Charles Koney, and a promising Major League career ended due to an elbow injury.
Boston Chapter Baseball Writers' Association of America also give out the Thomas A. Yawkey Award (MVP), Tony Conigliaro Award , a Red Sox Pitcher of the Year Award , the Jackie Jensen Spirit Award and a Good Guy Award.
The Boston Writers did not pick a rookie in 1996, 2000, 2003, 2005, and 2016. Who do you believe should have won? Who do you believe should win this particular season? Tell us in the Red Sox forum on Baseball Fever .
