GOLD GLOVE FIRST BASEMEN

MLB First Basemen who won a Gold Glove Award

The Gold Glove Award was first presented by the St. Louis-based Rawlings corporation in 1957 to honor the eighteen best fielders at their positions. Rawlings used a combination of defensive statistics along with visual effect to determine the winner and honored the recipient with a large gold glove. Voting is currently done by the managers and coaches from each Major League team who are NOT able to select their own players. Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a comprehensive list of Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners at the first basemens position.

Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"The difference between the old ballplayer and the new ballplayer is the jersey. The old ballplayer cared about the name on the front. The new ballplayer cares about the name on the back." - Gold Glove First Baseman Steve Garvey

Keith Hernandez is truly in a league by himself defensively, yet he was never "seriously" considered for a place in the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Did you know that J.T. Snow was the first player to win a Gold Glove Award at first base from both the American League (1995) and National League (1997)? Too easy? Did you know that when Darin Erstad won in 2004 he became the first player in Major League history to win a gold glove from both an infield and outfield position?

Not one single first baseman has ever won a Gold Glove Award during their rookie season. Who will be the first? Share your opinion on Baseball Fever .
