Members of the Philadelphia chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America vote annually for the Philadelphia Phillies Most Valuable Player Award receipient, also called the Mike Schmidt Most Valuable Player Award.
Similar in nature to a Most Valuable Player Award, but simply team specific, the Mike Schmidt Most Valuable Player Award has been given since 2004 to the Philadelphia Phillies player who consistently performed at the top of their game during the season.
"I heard sophomore jinx this, sophomore jinx that," he said after beating out 2005 NL MVP Albert Pujols for the award Monday. "I just prepared myself in spring training to go out and perform, stick with my game plan and have fun." - Ryan Howard on ESPN.com (AP Wire, 11/22/2006, 'Howard beats out Pujols to win NL MVP award', Source )
