" Bill Gilbreth pitched for the Wildcats as a student-athlete in 1966-69. While at ACU he was all-Southland Conference with a four-year record of 25-9. In 1968 he was the NCAA strikeout leader with 134 in 89 innings. After graduating from ACU, Gilbreth went on to play in the American League for the Detroit Tigers and California Angels." - ACU Website History Timeline
The Abilene Christian University baseball program started in 1955, Bill Gilbreth was the first and only (to date) Wildcat to make it to the Major League level.
When Bill Gilbreth played at Abilene Christian the school's name was actually Abilene Christian College (which is on his stats page). In 1976, they changed their name to the currently used Abilene Christian University label.
