Major League Baseball Player Alumni
The University of Portland baseball program started in 1923 and Billy Sullivan was their first player to make it to the Major League level. Names that appear on the chart above in bold print are in the University of Portland Hall of Fame.
The Quakers have had a long standing tradition in varsity sports and professional athletes (as illustrated above), but only began inducting members into their own Hall of Fame in April 1996. Don "Red" Kellet was the first & only former major leaguer / Quaker inducted in the inaugural class and his citation read as follows:
