The University of Southern Mississippi baseball program started in 1913, Laurin Pepper was the first former Golden Eagle—who where the Southerners at that time—to make it to the Major League level. Names that appear on the chart above in bold print are in the University of Southern Mississippi Hall of Fame.

There are also a nice set of players who attended Southern Miss, but did not play baseball for the Golden Eagles, they are: Paul Busby , Ken Wright , Jim Hutto , Don Castle , Stan Cliburn and Stew Cliburn (who did play at Delta State University ).
