Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"Kevin Appier always had great stuff and a good arm. He had games where he was dominant. His slider was so good that right-handed batters didn't want any part of it. He had a tendency to throw a lot of pitches, which hurt him in the later innings of a lot of games. He just wore himself down. His mechanics were unusual. I'm not sure you would ever take a video of Ape's delivery and use it as an example of great mechanics. For him, though, it worked. Sometimes you had to wonder how he avoided hurting his arm. On the mound he was flopping here and there, kicking and diving, sometimes falling, and the mound was torn up. He was fun to watch defensively because you never knew when he was going to dive headlong or side long. He was a trip. He was a smart guy, very personable and funny with a quirky sense of humor." - Author Denny Matthews in Tales from the Kansas City Royals Dugout: A Collection of the Greatest Royals Stories Ever Told (Sports Publishing, 02/10/2015, Kevin Appier , 208 Pages)
