On April 19, 1964 , Bob Bruce threw an immaculate inning , striking out three batters ( Bill White , Charlie James , Ken Boyer ) in the eighth inning with exactly nine pitches. Bruce was the tenth National League pitcher to join the "club" and the first in franchise history from the Houston Colt .45s ( Astros ) franchise with a 9-pitch, 9-strike, 3-out inning.
