Tom Candiotti Stats

Tom Candiotti was born on Saturday, August 31, 1957, in Walnut Creek, California. Candiotti was 25 years old when he broke into the big leagues on August 8, 1983, with the Milwaukee Brewers. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Tom Candiotti baseball stats page.

"Candiotti was the second player ever to come back from Tommy John surgery when he reached the majors in Milwaukee in 1983. When he won his first four major league starts with a 0.84 ERA just 22 months after the surgery - helping the Brewers stay in contention in early September - he was affectionally known as 'The Stopper' in Beertown. That year, he went a combined 19-8 in the majors, minors, and winter ball. He then added three playoff victories in winter ball. While with Milwaukee's Triple-A affiliate in Vancouver in 1985, Candiotti logged 150.2 innings and was a member of the Pacific Coast League championship team in that franchise's history. Yet, there i sno mention of him in Brewers history books, either. Though Candiotti's return from Tommy John surgery did not make the news globally, it was still one of the most courageous comeback stories in baseball history. Had social media existed then, his being the second player to ever come back from reconstructive elbow surgery - at a time when recovering from it was highly unlikely - would have resulted in a movie being made out of his story." - Author K.P. Wee in Tom Candiotti: A Life of Knuckleballs (McFarland Publishing. August 7, 2014. Preface)
