Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"In Colorado I had a real long at bat - foul, foul, foul. The next one was a ball. I thought it was ball four, and I went all the way to first. But it was only ball three. I went back to home, and the fans were getting all over me. I raised my hands over my head and everybody started laughing." - Sean Casey in Sports Illustrated ("Your most embarassing moment?", August 14, 2006, Page 34)

Sean Casey, on April 6, 2001 , had the first hit ever in Miller Park. Sean Casey, on April 9, 2001 , had the first hit ever in PNC Park. Sean Casey is the first player in Major League history to record the first hit in two newly opened big league parks during the same season.

Sean Casey not only had the first hit in PNC Park, but also the first home run. His first inning 2-run blast off Todd Ritchie gave The Mayor both the first hit and the first home run. A feat duplicated before him by Eric Anthony ( April 4, 1994 , Jacobs Field), Paul Sorrento ( April 6, 1992 , Oriole Park at Camden Yards), Dave Engle ( April 6, 1982 , The Metrodome), Richie Zisk ( April 7, 1977 , Exhibition Stadium), Frank Howard ( April 21, 1972 , Arlington Stadium), Boog Powell ( April 17, 1968 , Oakland-Almeda County Stadium) and Willie Stargell ( April 17, 1964 , Shea Stadium).

Did you know that when Sean Casey ground into twenty-seven double plays in 2005, he tied the National League single season record for left-handed hitters set by A.J. Pierzynski in 2004? [ Grounding Into Double Play Record Book ]
