When Dean Chance won the 1964 Cy Young Award , only one pitcher from Major League Baseball was recognized as the best pitcher in baseball. Chance led the American League in wins, earned run average, innings pitched, complete games and shutouts. The baseball writers put his name down on 85% of the votes, well ahead of Larry Jackson (10%) and Sandy Koufax (5%).

Did you know that Dean Chance was the first Angels pitcher in franchise history to ever win a Cy Young Award , as well as the first pitcher in team history to lead all other American League pitchers in earned run average ( ERA Champion ).

After being traded to the Minnesota , Dean Chance continued making historical firsts, becoming the first right-handed pitcher in a Twins uniform to throw a no-hitter. The first lefty in a Twins uniform to throw a no-hitter was Jack Kralick , who was born on June 1, the same day Chance was born.
