When Jim Davenport stepped onto the field, April 15, 1958 , in Seals Stadium, making his Major League debut, it was the first time a San Francisco Giants player ever wore #12 .

In the bottom of the first inning, leading off the historic west coast game, Jim Davenport was struck out by Don Drysdale - the first at-bat by a SAN FRANCISCO Giant in team history (the franchise played the year before, but were the New York Giants s).

In 1962, Jim Davenport won a Gold Glove Award , the first by a San Francisco Giants third baseman. Do you know who the next Giant third baseman was to receive the honor? [ Answer ]

Did you know that as a high school senior, Jim Davenport was recruited to be the quarterback at Alabama? The University had a rule against signing married athletes so Bi Jim attended Mississippi Southern and led the Golden Eagles to two upset victories against the Crimson Tide.
