Gene DeMontreville was born on Monday, March 10, 1873, in St. Paul, Minnesota. DeMontreville was 21 years old when he broke into the big leagues on August 20, 1894, with the Pittsburgh Pirates. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Gene DeMontreville baseball stats page.

"On February 18, 1935, while running to investigate a minor fire at the Mid-South Fairgrounds in Memphis, where he was concessions manager, he was fatally stricken. It was ironic that Gene DeMontreville, who was only 61, should die while running. All his life he had to run to catch trains, having played or managed in 17 different cities all the way from Montreal to Meridian." - Historian Joseph M. Overfield in Nineteenth Century Stars (1989)
