Author Stephen Martini ( The Chattanooga Lookouts & 100 Seasons of Scenic City Baseball ) wrote that Joe Engel was a pitcher for only a few years, but was much better known for his 35 years leading the minor league Chattanooga Lookouts—becoming one of the most legendary names in zany promotions in the nation. Engel once traded his shortstop to Charlotte for a 25-pound turkey then said, "I still think I got the worst of that deal. That was a mighty tough turkey."
