Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"Felix is a superb defensive shortstop with great range to his left and right, and a marvelously strong arm. He chokes up on his bat and makes good contract with the ball. In '89, he led the majors with 32 sacrifice bunts, the most in 10 years. Felix even had four in one game, which tied a 70-year-old team record. He also was the third toughest AL batter to strike out." - 1991 Score Baseball Card #139 (Score, Inc., Felix Fermin, 1991)

Did you know that Felix Fermin hit his first Major League home run on April 22, 1990 , versus Donn Pall , a line drive to deep left-field in the bottom of the seventh inning, the count was 2-2, and El Gato had to be happy as he had over 650 big league at-bats at that point and no home runs since he was in high school?

Felix Fermin, Four Sacrifice Hits
Felix Fermin (4 Sac Hits) | Macon Chronicle-Herald | August 23, 1989 | Page 2
On August 22, 1989 , Felix Fermin had four sacrifice hits in the same game, tying a Major League record that hadn't occurred since Ray Chapman , who was also wearing a Cleveland Indians uniform that historic day, had four on August 31, 1919 , 70 years earlier!

Since El Gato, two players have tied the record, both instances were in the National League, the first by Kris Benson , on April 18, 2004 , and the most recent by Cory Sullivan on June 14, 2006 .
