Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"After the game Fielder explained that getting his first stolen base had been only a matter of time: 'I told you I was going to get one,' he said. 'I've been working on my jumps the last nine years. The pressure's off now. I'll go on from here. Buddy (Bell) might start me moving a little more, now that he has seen me run.' After everyone stopped laughing at that last remark, Fielder added, 'Hopefully, he won't.'" - Author Mike Shannon in Tales from the Dugout: The Greatest True Baseball Stories Ever Told (Mike Shannon, McGraw-Hill Publishers, 01/11/1998, Page 70)

Did you know that Cecil Fielder was the first and only Major League player to hit a home run against a team four times in the same season in four different cities? He accomplished the unique feat in 1996 going deep against the Oakland Athletics on April 6 in Cashman Field (Las Vegas, Nevada), April 28 in Tiger Stadium (Detroit, Michigan), June 25 in Oakland-Alameda County Stadium (Oakland, California) and August 23 in Yankee Stadium (New York, New York).

Did you know that Cecil Fielder, on August 25, 1990 , became one of only four players, and the only Tiger, to hit a home run over the left-field roof at Tiger Stadium (the other three were Harmon Killebrew , Frank Howard and Mark McGwire )?

Did you know that Cecil Fielder, on September 14, 1991 , hit the only home run to ever travel completely out of Milwaukee County Stadium?

Did you know that Cecil Fielder made $9,237,500 in 1995, and $9,237,500 in 1996, the most by any player either of those two seasons?

Did you know that Cecil Fielder is the father of Prince Fielder ? Of course you did, but did you know David Bell and Russell Branyan are the only two teammates to appear on rosters with both father and son ?

Did you know that Cecil Fielder was inducted into the Ted Williams Hitters Hall of Fame ( link ) in 2012 alongside Tino Martinez ? Those who came before the two were Tony Oliva (2011, Andre Dawson (2006), Roberto Clemente (2000), Hank Aaron (1995), Joe DiMaggio (1995) and Ty Cobb (1995).

Cecil Fielder was the American League (AL) RBI Champion in 1990 (132 RBI), 1991 (133 RBI) and 1992 (124 RBI). The last player in AL history to lead the junior circuit in runs batted in across three consecutive years was Babe Ruth , who led the American League in 1919 (103 RBI), 1920 (158 RBI) and 1921 (177 RBI) (see article below).

Cecil Fielder Home Run History
Cecil Fielder | The Galveston Daily News | August 19, 1993 | Page 18
The Detroit Tigers franchise started in 1901 and exactly two Tigers have hit more than 50 home runs in a season, Hank Greenberg who had 59 in 1938, and Cecil Fielder who had 51 in 1990. Big Daddy won the Tiger of the Year Award in 1990, for his home run feat, then took home that hardware the next two years - the only Tigers player to date with three in a row.
