Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"You can't judge a person by his size, but you could judge 'em by the heart he has. And I have always had a big heart. Every time I went out there I gave 150 percent. It wasn't pretty at times, but I was under control and I knew what I was doing. And I enjoyed every minute of it, through the good times and the bad times." - John Franco in The Brooklyn Daily Eagle (Mike Fitzpatrick, 06/04/2012, 'Mets put John Franco, lefty Brooklyn closer, in team's Hall of Fame', Source )

Did you know that John Franco was the third New York Mets Team Captain in franchise history? New York Mets Team Captains: Keith Hernandez 1987-1989, Gary Carter David Wright 2013-(present). In 2012, the Mets inducted the four-time All-Star ( 1986 , 1987 , 1989 , 1990 ), three-time saves champion (1988, 1990, 1994) and two-time Rolaids Relief Man Award (1988, 1990) into the team Hall of Fame - their twenty-sixth inductee and fifth pitcher (1st: Tom Seaver , 2nd: Jerry Koosman , 3rd: Tug McGraw , 4th: Dwight Gooden ).

John Franco received 27 votes (4.6% of the 581 ballots) during his first year of eligibility on the 2011 Hall of Fame Ballot, missing the required 5% threshold to stay on the ballot by three votes. A bit surprising considering Franco recorded more saves in Major League history than any left-handed pitcher - ever - and his final total of 424 was the second most in baseball history when he retired [ Top 1,000 ].
