On August 19, 1969 , Ken Holtzman threw the first no-hitter by a Cubs ' lefty in Wrigley Field . Another unusual twist about his first gem, Holtzman did not strike out a single batter during this no-hitter, a pitching feat seen only once before in baseball history, on September 4, 1923 , by Sad Sam Jones .
