When Jerry Koosman mowed down 200 batters in 1976 , he became the second New York Mets left-handed twirler to fashion a 200-or-more strikeout season, joining what record-setting (most strikeouts in a season by a Mets left-handed pitcher / since broken by Johan Santana ) pitcher from 1973 ? [ Answer ]

Jerry Koosman did not win the Rookie of the Year Award in 1968, but he did win nineteen games that year, breaking the New York Mets ' record for most wins in a season by a rookie pitcher ( a mark that still stands, through today ), set previously by Tom Seaver , who won sixteen games in 1967.
