Hiram Bithorn Stadium (San Juan, Puerto Rico) hosted Major League Baseball's Opening Day Game on April 1, 2001 , in which the Toronto Blue Jays (8) faced the Texas Rangers (1) in an American League match-up, the first game ever played in the ballpark - a stadium that is named in honor of the first Puerto Rican to play Major League Baseball, Hi Bithorn . Esteban Loaiza was the Blue Jays starting pitcher that historic day, and not only won the game, he set a club record for most strikouts (9) in an Opening Day game!

When Estaban Loaiza made his big league debut, on April 29, 1995 , he became the thirty-seventh pitcher from Mexico to pitch in the Major Leagues. Loiza defeated the Phillies 3-2 that memorable day, and became only the third pitcher from Mexico to earn the win during their debut, joining Cy Acosta and Armando Reynoso .

Did you know that when Estaban Loaiza had a career high number of wins (21 | #2 in AL | Top 25 ) and strikeouts (207 | #1 in AL | Top 25 ) in 2003, he tied the mark for most wins by a pitcher from Mexico during a single season ? Do you remember who that record setting phenom was? [ Answer ]
