Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"America has always had great duos. In entertainment it was Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, George Burns and Gracie Allen. In baseball it was the great Chicago White Sox tag team of Gerry Staley and Turk Lown. Together they formed the best one-two punch out of the bullpen in 1959 for manager Al Lopez . 'We won the pennant that year largely because of Staley and Lown,' said Lopez. 'They were the biggest factor in our winning of the pennant,' Lopez recalled. Jack Kuenster of the Chicago Daily News , 'always said he had the perfect bullpen combination, even though they were both right-handers -- Staley with the sinkerball to get the double play, and Lown with the fastball to get the strikeout.'" - Baseball Historian Adam Ulrey (SABR Baseball Biography, 'Turk Lown,' Source )
