Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"Dolf Loque was an intese pitcher. He worked batters like a surgeon, cutting corners inside and out, up and down. He never hit a batter by accident. One fan was roasting him royally. Luque warned his manager, fat Uncle Robbie ( Robinson of the Dodgers), 'I'm gonna club thees loudmouth weeth a bat.' Robbie said, 'Forget it. He paid and is entitled to sound off.' The heckler turned on Robbie : 'Hey, fat-belly, fat-belly Robinson !" Robbie turned to Luque, 'OK, Luque, club that loud-mouth mother-fucker!' - The Sporting News (1987 Conlon Baseball Card, TM World Wide Sports, 1987)

Dolf Luque Baseball Card
Dolf Luque | 1961 Fleer Baseball Card (#56) | Baseball Almanac Collection
Dolf Luque was the seventh player born in Cuba to make it to the major leagues, following Rafael Almeida (1911), Armando Marsans (1911), Mike Gonzalez (1912), Merito Acosta (1913), Jack Calvo (1913), and Angel Aragon (1914), but when The Pride of Havana took the mound on May 20, 1914, he became the first Cuban -born pitcher in Major League history.
