Did you know that Steven Matz had one of the more memorable debuts in Major League history? On June 28, 2015 , Matz was the starting pitcher for the New York Mets . Matz pitched 7.2 innings for the win and at the plate went 3-for-3 with 4 runs batted in (RBI)! Since RBI became an official big league statistic in 1920, Matz became just the twenty-fifth player ( and FIRST PITCHER ) to record 4+ RBI in his Major League debut game.

Steven Matz, in that same historic debut, made some history he might not like to remember as well. The first batter he faced, Brandon Phillips , took him deep! [ Home Run Allowed to First Batter Faced ]

Of note, on April 21, 1898, pitcher Bill Duggleby (in his MLB debut game) of the Philadelphia Phillies went 2-for-4 with a grand slam (in his first at-bat ), in a complete game win over the New York Giants .

In recording three hits in his Major League debut game, Steven Matz became the first pitcher with three or more hits in his debut game since Jason Jennings of the Colorado Rockies on August 23, 2001 . Jennings also had three hits in his debut game.

You can follow the team links in the chart above to locate common statistics (singles), advanced statistics (WHIP Ratio & Isolated Power), and unique statistics (plate appearances & times on bases) not found on any other website.
