Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"Catcher Brian McCann could land himself a shrine in Cooperstown, N.Y., if he keeps it up, Brian Cashman said. 'If he can continue to do that,' the Yankees general manager said, 'you're talking about a potential Hall of Famer.' ... Manager Joe Girardi also heaped praise on the seven-time All-Star, who hit .256 with 20 home runs and 57 RBI in 102 games in Atlanta in 2013. A catcher who's a capable defender and threat at the plate is hard to find, Girardi said. 'He's an offensive catcher who really has the ability to work a pitching staff,' he said. 'He's a complete catcher. He's a middle-of-the-order hitter. His power in this ballpark should work very well.'" - Sportswriter Brendan Kuty (NJ.com, 'Brian McCann a 'potential Hall of Famer,' Yankees GM Brian Cashman says', 12/05/2013, Source )

Did you know that Brian McCann ( May 17, 2011 ) and Jeff Heath ( August 27, 1949 ) are the only two players in Major League history to hit a ninth inning game-tying pinch-hit home run and then later win that game with an extra-inning walk-off home run?

Pinch-hit appears above in bold print because in Major League Baseball history, there are more instances of ballplayers who were not pinch-hitting that have hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning, then the game winning home run in an extra inning of the same game.

Those record setting (non-pinch hitters) are: [C] Donnie Scott ( April 29, 1985 ), [3B] Jim Presley ( April 8, 1986 ), [RF] Andre Dawson ( May 8, 1990 ), [3B] Robin Ventura ( June 10, 1998 ), [RF] Raul Mondesi ( April 5, 1999 ), [1B] Ed Sprague ( April 11, 2000 ), [3B] Aaron Boone ( June 14, 2002 ), [3B] Joe Crede ( August 27, 2002 ) and [3B] Adrian Beltre ( August 20, 2004 ).

Brian McCann won four consecutive Silver Slugger Awards (2008 through 2011) while catching in Atlanta (and a fifth before the streak, in 2006). He is the only Braves catcher to win more than one Silver Slugger [ Javy Lopez 1x, in 2003, & Johnny Estrada 1x, in 2004] and one of only two catchers to win at least that that many times consecutively, Mike Piazza holds the record - winning ten consecutive times (1993 through 2002).

Brian McCann won his sixth Silver Slugger Award in 2015 , wearing a New York Yankees uniform, making him the first catcher to win a Silver Slugger in the American League and a Silver Slugger in the National League .

When Brian McCann moved from the Braves to the Yankees in 2013, he had to stop wearing his #16 as it had been retired for Whitey Ford (Atlanta Braves #16 History / New York Yankees #16 History), but his walk-up / at bat music stayed the same - DJ Khaled, "All I Do Is Win."
