On June 23, 1984 , Willie McGee legged-out a triple in the second inning ( Steve Trout ), collected a seeing-eye single in the fourth inning ( Rich Bordi ), blasted a homer in the sixth inning ( Dickie Noles ), then completed his cycle with a double in the tenth inning ( Lee Smith ), the seventeenth cycle completed by a St. Louis Cardinals , their first by a switch hitter!

Willie McGee hit a National League (NL) leading .353 batting average in 1985, establishing a new NL record for highest batting average by a switch hitter , since broken by Chipper Jones (.364 in 2008). Five years later, McGee was hitting .335 in the senior circuit, had enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting championship , and was traded to an American League team. Nobody caught McGee ( Top 25 ) after he left the league, making him the first batting champion to end the year in the opposite league.

Did you know that Willie McGee, who hit four home runs all-season (123 games played / 1982), was the first National League rookie to hit two home runs during a World Series game, taking Pete Vuckovich deep twice during Game 3 of the 1982 World Series ?
