"A speedy line-drive-lashing lefty with a strong arm, veteran Wally Moses joined the Red Sox midway through the 1946 season, shored up right field during Boston's run to the American League pennant, and batted .417 in four World Series games. A well-liked and respected Georgian who spent 41 seasons in the majors, 17 as a player, 16 as a coach, three as a scout, and five more as a hitting instructor, Moses contributed solid outfield play on a part-time basis to Boston's 1947 and 1948 AL pennant pursuits." - Baseball Historian Doug Skipper (SABR Baseball Biography, 'Wally Moses', Source )

Did you know that Wally Moses had a game-ending steal of home plate on July 8, 1943 , in extra innings (14th), versus Mace Brown ( Boston Red Sox ), and no player from the Chicago White Sox has had a game-ending steal of home since then?
Wally Moses, Game Ending Steal of Home
Wally Moses (Game Ending Steal of Home) | The Lincoln Star | July 8, 1943 | Page 4

Wally Moses was not the first White Sox base thief to swipe fifty-plus bags in a season, that honor went to Frank Isbell who had 52 stolen bases in 1901 . His team-specific record was broken by Hall of Famer Eddie Collins , who stole 53 bases in 1917 . Moses eclipsed them both, successfully stealing 56 bases in 1943 , a record that was tied once (by Hall of Famer Luis Aparicio in 1959 ), but remained in place for forty years, until Rudy Law crushed the mark and set the current Pale Hose record in 1983 , seventy-seven stolen bases!

In 1937, two years after The Georgia Express made his Major League debut ( Box Score ), Wally Moses appeared on a Wheaties box panel (as did Earl Averill , Lefty Gomez , Mel Ott , Cecil Travis and Hal Trosky , each in 1937). Ballplayers who came before that set were Lou Gehrig (1934), Jimmie Foxx (1934) and Dizzy Dean (1935).
