Paul O'Neill was a 17-year veteran of the major leagues who played with two franchises, went to five All-Star Games ( 1991 , 1994 , 1995 , 1997 , 1998 ) and won five World Series ( 1990 , 1996 , 1998 , 1999 , 2000 ). But, did you know that Paul O'Neill:

...had four 100-RBI seasons with the New York Yankees , tied for fourth most amongst left-handed hitting Bronx Bombers , behind only Lou Gehrig (13x), Babe Ruth (12x), Don Mattingly (5x) and Tino Martinez (5x)?

...played in three different perfect games , each time on the winning team; Tom Browning ( September 16, 1988 ), David Wells ( May 17, 1998 ) and David Cone ( July 18, 1999 )?

...was photographed at the age of six, in Crosley Field, with his boyhood idol? O'Neill said, "The awe on my face while watching must have been enough to inspire him (his dad) to take a photograph of me in my Reds jersey standing in the upper deck, posed in my left-handed batting stance with number 21 , Roberto Clemente , in the background down on the field. Better than no autograph, I figured."

In 1994 , Paul O'Neill was the American League batting champion , hitting a league leading .359 ( Top 25 ). O'Neill was the fourth left-handed New York Yankees player to win a batting title , joining Babe Ruth ( 1924 ), Lou Gehrig ( 1934 ), and Don Mattingly ( 1984 ).

George Steinbrenner, the Yankees ' principal owner, said in a post game press conference, "He showed you do not give up. Ever. Ever . A heart of a lion. That's what you think of when you think of Paul O'Neill. I wish I had 25 like him ... he's the ultimate warrior."
