Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"I've always believed in leading by doing it on the field and having others follow. I've never thought that you have to be too outspoken in the clubhouse, as long as you set an example for guys to follow. People watch that more than they listen to some guy talking, no matter who he is." - Roy Oswalt on SignOnSanDiego.com (Chris Duncan, 02/18/2007)

The Houston Astros were a National League (NL) team from 1962 through 2012, before moving into the American League (AL) in 2013 (through today). Roy Oswalt had a NL leading earned run average in 2006, the sixth different Astros twirler to win an ERA Title , joining Roger Clemens (2005), Danny Darwin (1990), Nolan Ryan (1987), Mike Scott (1986) and J.R. Richard (1979), and due to the franchise jumping leagues, Oswalt will be the last Houston pitcher to lead all other senior circuit pitchers. [ Year by Year ERA Leaders ]

On June 11, 2003 , Roy Oswalt started a game in Yankee Stadium , but left after only one-inning with two-strikeouts, no walks, and no hits, due to a persistent injury that nagged him throughout the season. The Astros bullpen was put to work that day, using Peter Munro (2.2 IP), Kirk Saarloos (1.1 IP), Brad Lidge (2.0 IP), Octavio Dotel (1.0 IP), and Billy Wagner (1.0 IP) - all five of them were up-to-the-task, not allowing a single hit all day, the first multi-pitcher no hitter in Houston history.

Did you know that when Roy Oswalt won twenty games in back-to-back seasons (2004-2005), he became only the second Astros ' pitcher with more than one twenty-win season? Do you know what pitcher won twenty-or-more games in Houston before Oswalt? Clue: It was in 1979 and 1980. [ Answer ]
