Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"Joe Sparks, (Johnny) Paredes's manager at Indianapolis who has been with the Expos since the end of the Triple-A season, sums it up best: 'At times, he's looked liked a phenomenal major-league prospect. Other times, he's shown he has a long, long way to go. It's hard to figure. I think a lot of it is simply from being in the majors. He could go 0-for-20 in Indianapolis and still be guaranteed the starting job. It doesn't work that way up here (with Montreal ). Never has.'" - Sports Writer Jeff Blair in The Gazette (09/20/1988, Is Paredes a prospect or suspect? , Page E-4)

Did you know that when Johnny Paredes first took the field for the Expos , on April 29, 1988 , he was the seventh ballplayer from Venezuela to play for Montreal ? The Venezuelans who preceded him: Jose Herrera , Angel Salazar , Manny Trillo , Fred Manrique , Andres Galarraga , and Ubaldo Heredia .

Did you know that Enoli Paredes — a Dominican pitcher who made his big league debut in 2020 — was scouted by Oz Ocampo and Roman Ocumarez, then signed by the Houston Astros as a non-drafted free agent on October 15, 2015? Why include this here? Johnny Paredes is his father! [ MLB Fathers & Sons ]
