Baseball Almanac Top Quote

" Cincinnati lefty Harry Perkowski got revenge against the Giants on July 19. Back in May, Harry had a two-hit shutout going into the bottom of the ninth in the Polo Grounds with the Redlegs ahead, 1-0. A two-run pinch-homer by Bobby Hofman made Perkowski a loser. Now, in July, he entered the game having lost seven of eight decisions. Perkowski was almost perfect. For twelve innings, the Giants could not score. Don Liddle matched zeroes with Harry until Leo pinch-hit for him in the tenth. In the bottom of the twelfth, second-string catcher Hobie Landrith belted Al Corwin's pitch for a home run and Perkowski was a 1-0 winner." - Author Mike Getz in The Giants Win the Series!: Headlines and Highlights of 1954 (AuthorHouse Publishing, 02/11/2011, '166. Harry's Revenge,' Page 127)
